You should be ashamed of yourself.....
That Guy says (30 May '10)

    Good Morning

Please take a minute to look out in your driveway, your garage, the street, and take note of what kind of car you are driving. If you are driving a Toyota, Honda, Mitsubishi, or a Nissan you should slap yourself upside the head with a shovel..

Do you even understand what you are doing? Do you even understand what being an American is all about? Do you even understand what American Automobile Companies have done for this country?

Since the Government doesn't seem to be ready to help the American Automobile companies, then it's up to the American consumer to realize that a bankruptcy for Ford or GM or both is definitely not in the national interest. Not only would hundreds of thousands of workers lose their jobs, but about 450,000 retirees would be de-funded. These retirees on fixed incomes would see smaller pensions and reduced medical benefits. The workers that remained would see massive cuts in benefits as well.

Big deal, you say? At least American companies still offer their workers pensions. Take Nissan for instance, Nissan North America new hires won't be able to count on a company pension when they retire. And if you work for Nissan and didn't happen to reach the age of 65 by the end of last year, you won't be participating in the company sponsored medical plan, either.

If American companies can't remain successful and shoulder the burden of health care for their workers, the rest of us will likely pick up the tab in the form of higher taxes through expanded entitlement programs, which are already growing at a rate of 8 percent a year.

Now I know you dummmies will tell me that Quality is an issue. Well, Did you know that according to JD Power that tthe average dependability of all GM and Ford models combined was greater than the average dependability for all the Japanese models combined.

How can you not root for the hometeam? How can you live life knowing you are a traitor?

    Buy American!!!!

Oh, you are something else.. Do you understand simple economics? Why are the Big 3 Struggling? One reason is people like the man you were raised by having a pension and retirement benefits. None of these Jap Companies that you support are paying a Dime in Retirements and pensions. Another reason is When things are good, these American Companies give their workers profit sharing, Bigger and Better Union Contracts, and afford an uneducated high school dropout the opportunity to raise a family on its wages.. But I think the real fault lies with the U.S. consumer. First everyone WANTED sport-utility vehicles, now we don't. We buy foreign vehicles because we think the disparity in quality is greater than it really is. A difference in quality does exist, but it's getting smaller, just as an Example, FORD outranked Toyota in Quality this year,. And all arguments pale, I think, beside the need to preserve what's left of our manufacturing base, and the need to try to right our financial deficits.

To top it all off, I wish you understood the business platform, and the double standards involved. You see, These same Foreign Car Companies you support and put on a pedistal reside in countries that tax us up to 7 times to sell a car in their country. Not a very equal playing field. Our Government doesn't have the balls to stand up to it either.. So you know, I will never change your mind, because you will not look beyond the fact your piece of shit Toyota went 350,000 miles just like my Fathers F-150 and Econoline Van did.. Keep throwing your Money towards a country that Sneak attacked us (Japan), and another Country that can't wait to do the same (China)

I don't see how they are putting that much money back into the economy, wasn't GM or Ford ranked number 1 for automobile sales for years and now they are cutting jobs and closing plants, why? Because not enough Americans buy their products? Mismanagement of funds? Taking the company in the wrong direction (SUV's and the bigger is better attitude)? According to the AP the changes that Toyota is making to their US plants will keep their full time employees working (43,000+), unlike the American companies with there layoffs and pension cuts. I was raised by a UAW member of 35+ years and he nearly disowned me for purchasing my 1st Toyota Supra, once the car passed 350,000 miles with no problems, just required rountine maintenance, he finally understood why I would "betray my father and my country", simply a better product. Now, after reading the article on Toyota's plans I would have to say that in addition to owning a Toyota, I would rather work for their company too, but that could just be my checkbook talking.

What are your thoughts on American Unions purchasing their PPE from non-American Companies?

That Guy's picture

Yes, it absolutely does.. Profits from sales of American Vehicles go to American Companies, and benefit the American Economy.

Jenifer_3's picture

Does is matter that both of my Toyota's and my Mitsubishi were made in America, yet my Dodge and Ford were made in Mexico and Canada?

Karen_171's picture

We should all support america! I drive a '08 Malibu

I live in the Twin Cities and Ford was gonna close the plant that made Ford Rangers. Wake up Executives. Go to Canada thats a popular little putt putt

Amen Kev!! I agree 100%.
My family comes from a long line of Ford workers. My parents both count on that retirement/disability. My father is totally disabled and my mother is terminally ill. I am their caregiver but without there disability/pension, health care benifits, (that have been cut unbelievably so), they wouldn't have the diginity to go along with the pride that they have from working day in and day out for over 40 years to secure their future and provide for their family's. American's are giving away our old feeling of "job security" by buying foreign. The future of the American Auto workder is down the toilet partly because of Stupid ppl buying Foreign. Its a trickel effect. Hell its more like a serge, it will bring us to our knees unless people wise up and keep the money at home.
Wake up people, your ruining your kids future, My kids future and our own future retirement, that will be here sooner than you think.

And our import/export taxes are a joke. Because we are/were the richest country in the Nation we have been taken advantage of. Unfortuneatly its been by American's who let it happen, day in and day out. We are too politically correct in this Country and its killing us slowly.

Wise Up.....BUY AMERICAN....SPEAK ENGLISH....LEAVE OUR PLEDGE OF ALLEGENCE ALONE....DON'T ASK ME TO PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH, If you want to become a citizen of the great USA then you should speak the language, you press 1 for spanish!!

Steppin down from the soap box!!

NEXT.....................

I will always buy American. My husband has work for Ford for 31 yrs. here in Canada. They build the Crown Victoria & Mercury Grand Marquis. Every police dept. has Crown Vic's, but they are buying other crap now. The St. Thomas Ford plant is slated to close in 3 yrs. Thanks to all of you who buy all that foreign crap. I proudly own a Ford Fusion & hubby drives a Ford Ranger 4x4.
Kev? Do I need to shut up too since I'm Canadian? Sorry, just had to ask! :)

GM--another reason I love Detroit....3 generation GM (former) employee right here baby...and a proud owner of a big ol' Buick...with my Kid Rock sticker in the back window...
Oh yeah, and I am currently employed in the petroleum industry and hybrid's lose so much in fuel efficiency that there is really no savings, plus with the higher cost and higher maintenance you never recoup the money your supposed to be saving on gas.

Oh Kelly, I was waiting for that response...

Do you know where the profits from those sales and companies go? They go right back to Japan.. You know Japan don't you, The Company that assaulted us years ago, sneak attack, and killed many many men and women. Yeah, the cost of exporting is expensive, but at least we the dumb americans allow them to come and build factories here, and export their vehicles without numerous taxes.. Do you know how many taxes American companies are charged trying to export vehicles into Japan or China?

We should have never let those companies into this Country. I do not care about the handful of Americans working in those plants, they do not compare with the 100 of Thousands who have worked for the Big Three, are getting retirements from the Big Three, and are currently working for the big three...

SOme claim that the Japanese Companies are picking up the slack. This argument implies that the hiring of American workers by foreign companies would never take place if there weren't layoffs by American companies first. Even if you view foreign investment as a good thing, which it isn't, foreign companies will still invest in America even if we support American companies so they can actually retain our own workers. This argument is almost as bad as the one that implies we need to destroy American manufacturing jobs in general so we can move American workers into high-tech jobs. Why not let the college graduates strapped with tens of thousands of dollars in student loans and other debts take these jobs and protect American workers in the jobs they choose to have now?

country_2's picture

I drive a chevy cavalier and would not dream of driving anything else.I LOVE MY CHEVY!!!And the gas mileage it gets.

Kelly_152's picture

Have you ever opened the door of a foreign vehicle and looked at the mfg sticker to see where it was manufactured?

Most foreign cars are made in USA because the cost of importing them to the US is expensive. We have huge production plants down here. I'm sure those families would be hurting if we boycotted and shut down those plants.

What about your lawn mower? What kind of engine is in it? How about your boat? Motorcycle?

I ALWAYS will buy American!!

DetroitRockGirl_2's picture

I am not sold on hybrid tech yet...they may "run" cleaner, but still have to deplete (expensive) natural resources to create electricity....
Perhaps I will just fly American.....

Toyota's Hybrid Technology???? WHy do you even comment, when you do not have a clue as to what you speak of.. First off Hybrid's are a Dime a Dozen these days, and really are a joke, especially Toyota's

Second, you are a fucking Canadian, so shut the fuck up..

DetroitRockGirl_2's picture

OMFG I thought you were kidding- you're killin' me!
I traded in my (first and only) Honda for a Ford two years ago entirley because I felt obligated to go back to buying American (my dad was a GM engineer)....I am a very good little consumer (I do WAY more than my share!) and I have been very happy with my decision.
BUY AMERICAN.
