Ive never met this young lady but sparta high school are more CANs than CAN'ts..this little lady created and dreamed and won..30,000 scholarship for school , 50,000 donated to Sparta High School and another 25,000 to local charities she was very unassuming on camera (this young lady is going to go places) cannot be more happy for my neigboring community it was a great place to work and my aunt always wanted to move there but never did but worked there.
Kid Rock does not support itunes, therefore you can not download his albums but for some reason he supports Rhapsody and you can download his songs or an entire album.
I'm not going to argue that DWAC and RRJ are (or are not) great albums. But radio plays and sales do not equal a masterpiece or quality. I mean, Britney fucking Spears has radio plays and sales. Radio plays and sales are certainly important factors in success, no denying that! But whether or not something is a good art is different conversation. Just a thought.
There will never be another album like DWAC!
Doesn't it baffel you that RRJ is doing so much better in the poles??
DWAC lovers need to come forward and vote!!
Coulnot have said it better myself, hope the new material is as good as DWAC but that would be very hard if not impossible, would be VERY happy if its 50 % as good
Simple...Grits is not under the Atlantic label. The albums listed are those recorded under the Atlantic label, of which sponsor's and funds this website, and is Kid's recording label.
DWAC is by far his best studio album. There is no comparing the radio plays, sales, or fans.
He may have gained some fans with RNR Jesus, but he lost quite a few too...
There is nothing that compared to the DWAC days....
The End
LOL
I don't think they (KR & Atlantic) would agree it's not about sales either, hahaha. :)
Its always about sales. You don't get a record deal because people want to hear you on MTV.
Not about sales? tell that to Bob and the record company
DWAC brought far more radio play than RNRJ
Good point Connie Jo, that is exactly the reason!
As others have said R n R Jesus isnt even in the same ball park as DWAC. I love them all. I am a huge History of rock fan and play it alot/ I also love Polyfuze and EMSP. But Hands down DWAC is one of the greateast records ever made by anyone. NO COMPARISON.....
17 million is a big difference, and even if record sales were what they were in 1999 I wouldn't see R&RJ catching up. 22 million is a hard number to beat. I do believe the numbers for R&Rj would be greater than 5 million if their wasn't illegal download, but I do agree, it would not catch up to DWAC. It is to big of a difference.
Either way, regardless of record sales DWAC and R&RJ will continue to hold my #1 and #2 spot repsectively for greatest albums ever. Record sales have never mattered to me. If I like the music I buy the cd and enjoy it. And in this case I love Kid Rocks music and always will, regardless of record sales, genre etc... no matter what music he makes he seems to get it right.
Oh, and one of the reasons the poll has RRJ leading DWAC...is because the fan base at this website is generally that of RRJ, not DWAC.
I agree, DWAC will always remain my fav, but R&R Jesus has taken over my #2 fav slot. There are a couple songs on R&R Jesus that I'm not that big on, but overall I love it, and a couple of my all time fav Kid Rock songs are on the R&R Jesus CD.
As far as CD sales being down due to a slowed economy as reason...stat's are showing that's not entirely true, based upon individual artists of course. Yes, CD's sales have dropped over the decade in general with people being able to steal music on the internet, download singles only, Itunes, but that also does not justify the huge difference in sales numbers between DWAC and R&R Jesus...literally millions & millions. Music could be downloaded for free and illegally when DWAC was released also, and actually...more so than today, because Federal Laws have been passed since outlawing many 'free music download' and sharing music sites.
I haven't checked recently, but at last count...DWAC had sold well over 22 million copies...R&R Jesus around 5 million...17 MILLION copies difference! I don't think any economical or illegal downloading reasons will justify that much of a difference. The only justified reason I can rationally conclude...is simply that R&R Jesus didn't appeal to the same number of music fans as DWAC with being original, fresh, unique, a masterpiece, whatever.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their own opinion of which is better, or a personal favorite...I'm not that narrowminded or arrogant...we all respectively have our own musical preferrences, and should. I'm simply stating proven facts contradictory to those misconceived and speculated arguments given as to R&R Jesus, or any other Kid Rock CD...equaling DWAC in sales, fan base numbers, populartity, public exposure resulting in his worldwide fame as a recording artist. DWAC remains #1 in all those categories...statistically proven by the millions and the test of time. :)
From what I understand...R&R Jesus could not be downloaded 'legally', free or not. Nor could the singles released be downloaded from Itunes...Kid boycotted Itunes deliberately to increase album sales, of which I support his decision, and found it to be honorable in some aspects.
I agree the economy can play a factor in general retail sales, of most everything...however, we're talking a difference in literally millions of copies...which typically doesn't equal as reason as being slow economy sales. There may have been sluggish sales as a result of a failed economy, but not literally millions in difference, not for something especially as inexpensive as a CD. Besides...other artists have been selling well even during the failed economy.
Liquor, beer, food and music...tend to not be affected much by a failing economy, based upon historical statistics.
DWAC was the right music and the right time.Nothing will ever compare.Back in 99 not alot of people were downloading music,It was not available like it is today. So sales will never be like that again,For KR or anyone else in the music Bizz.
Rock and Roll Jesus has been very sucessfull,in alot of ways, brought him to radio ALOT,and because of that,he grabbed ALOT more fans
Its not always about sales. So In those terms R&R jesus could be his most successful to date.
Polyfuze Is and Always will be my favorite, and If he made that today.I think It would be the most sucessful.
I have to say I love every Kid Rock album, all of them are in reach in my car. I am constantly saying to myself I want to hear this song and will switch the cd about 6 times in one trip. I got DWAC when I was 10 years old after persuading my friends brother to buy it for me since my parent were trilled about the idea of there 10 year listening to that kind of music. 10 years later and it is still my favorite album ever (not just Kid Rock, all aritst and genre). I loved every album he releases since DWAC, but never as much. But then R&RJ came out, and there was a very close second. I can listen to R&RJ over and over and never get bored. It has a song to satisfy every genre I love.
And I also do think the sales did not compare because cd sales are down. I am not saying it would of caught up with DWAC if sales were up, but I believe that is a big factor. Even if Kid doesn't sell his music on I-tunes there are still ways to download it illegally.
I agree obviously.
I think people tend to forget, or maybe it's because they weren't Kid Rock fans back in 1998-2002 or so, and aren't aware of how huge Kid was then...but Kid Rock was all over the place with the success of DWAC...MTV, VH1, Rolling Stone Cover, Woodstock, Howard Stern, Letterman, Grammy Nomination, Coors Commercial (Somebody's Gotta Feel This), Biltmore Hat Endorsements, and on, and on, and on. He's not getting more publicity with R&R Jesus than DWAC, and from where I'm sitting based upon sales comparisons...not sure how the math is being done that he's acquired more fans as a result of R&R Jesus...other than more fans from a different genre.
Just sayin...it's not adding up for me. R&R Jesus fans don't get me wrong...I love the CD, am not diehard old skool, not narrowminded musically. R&R Jesus has a couple of my favorite Kid Rock songs on it, & am very happy it did well for Kid...it keeps him making music, of which we all benefit long term...but DWAC remains my favorite for legitimate & critically acclaimed musical reasons, not so much due to it's genre.
There is no comparing RNRJ to DWAC in terms of being a "masterpiece" RNRJ is nowhere near DWAC on the Masterpiece scale. Devil Without a Cause broke him onto the scene, sold millions upon millions of albums and had his face plastered all over TV for months on end. RNRJ had one hit single. A couple good songs that will never be singles and a pile of filler. There is no comparing the two
Yeah, I noticed that too, but the choices are the albums released under Atlantics label, of which funds this website, hahaha. :)
Poly is many old skool fan's favorite.
polyfuze is my fav, but what a shocker, its not listed along with EMSP and grits.............
Well, I dunno...the only reason I ponder whether or not it's gained him more fans is...if so, why did DWAC out sell R&R Jesus by a landslide, and without the same radio play RR&J received? Fan's buy the CD's...no? DWAC outsold RR&J years before it's release, so can't claim fans of RR&J are responsible for DWAC record historic sales.
I think RR&J gained him a broader fan base relating to genre, & age span too, as well as broader worldwide recognition with the success of the 'All Summer Long' single...but...many diehard old skool fans lost interest when he began crossing genres. Basically...he traded fans of one genre for fans of another, and for whatever reason, didn't reach the record sales he did with DWAC among the new fan base.
When I've mentioned being a Kid Rock fan to many local Country Music fans...they pretty much say the same thing, "oh, I like or love his single 'All Summer Long'."...but they didn't buy the CD. So?....
Any other opinions as to why RR&J didn't come close to selling as many copies as DWAC...if it's factual that RR&J has brought him 'MORE' fans, rather than simply a 'different' genre of fan? Again...DWAC outsold RR&J years before it's release and any can lay claim RR&J helped sell DWAC copies.
I havent been on line since i posted this discussion because i woke up feeling under the weather today, and no you cant vote more than once, i tried!!
You guys all make great points, DWAC has sold the most, and it is my favorite. But RRJ has gained Kid Rock so many more fans.
And i wonder why we werent even given Grits as an option?? Hmmm?
But Cocky is the one that i have been reaching for the most lately, there is something about that one that helps me to get motivated for work in the morning, as we already alresdy discussed in Jades discussion "DWIC or Cocky, which is it?"
Except for one very critical factor...R&R Jesus isn't even coming close to reaching the sales numbers DWAC did, and it never will...that in itself speaks volumes for labeling an album a "masterpiece". DWAC made history, literally.
Yes, I do! I voted a few days ago for DWAC. I'm not sure...can one vote more than once as many website polls are? If so, I could see some voting more than once, which to me doesn't give an accurate voting opinion...more a controlling popularity contest for those voting multiple times.
I do have to say he's gained a lot of new fans, add that to the old ones and yeah he's selling. I know people at work when they find how much of a big fan i am they have to let me know they got the CD cuz they heard All Summer Long on the radio. I tell them how proud I am of them lol.
COCKY COCKY COCKY COCKY...
(just saying) (in case you missed it in the previous post...)
I voted! (COCKY COCKY COCKY COCKY COCKY) but it seems to only want to take my vote once. I think everyone should vote (COCKY COCKY COCKY COCKY COCKY) cause otherwise it clearly just isn't working right! :-)
