Once upon a time, a Kid Rock show in Detroit was something all my people wanted to go to. It was the cool thing to do, the cool place to be, a good time for all. Now my mom wants to go, my aunt calls for tickets, and my teachers from High School frequent the shows. Once upon a time, he was a devil without a cause, now he is all religous during his shows, making me feel as if he is a zealot without a cause. The lyrics and content used to be on the edge, its what made him who he is, now its pathetic and same ole same ole. Why do I hold on? Less and less of the music that makes the shows fun are being played, less and less of what made him who he is, is being made. We used to go to shows expecting to mash it up with a female afterwards, now we turn our eyes at the sight of tits being exposed, because of the cellulite and droopyness.
What happened? Where did he go wrong? Why?
All the years of saying fuck the critics, yet the man searches for critical acclaim! The EGO that made this man do it his way, is the same EGO searching for that which he pretends to despise. The Same EGO that makes him sing drift away at shows, is the same ego that makes him take more of the Hip Hop heavy songs out of the show.
Why Do I even stand by, waiting for a sign of greatness?
I dont know...
I love half your age.... I wish he would do a few more humorous songs and I especially love it with Stef's version....
Oh, and I didn't mean move on & forget about his Rap/Hip Hop roots...rather move on like he did, to master other genres & captivate fans of those genres too. One should never forget their beginnings, what brought them success, and always include those factors in continued success. I agree 100% with you in that aspect. The only thing I really don't agree with you on...is the point within your blog title...leaving him & the music behind because for now, he's chosen to explore other aspects/genres. He is doing it well, haha...gotta give him credit for it...RRJ has been his biggest success since Cocky...& then some, as far as reaching across musical boundaries he had not previously...no?
No, I know you didn't say he shouldn't sing Kevin...not taking your statements out of context, simply 'thinking' out loud with some of my comments...such as I had the thought what if he went back to Rap Hip/Hop, nothing else, then I'd personally be sad, see it as a waste of talent. It was just a thought related to the subject, but not related to anything you said directly. I love the mans voice, love his entertaining energy...regardless of what he has done to date.
Cocky is a good mix, and that is what I prefer personally...all of his musical talents on a CD. RRJ is a bit of everything...granted, Sugar was the only old skool song. Though I like most of the slower tempo songs...I do agree there are too many on RRJ, and would've preferred a couple less replaced with more upbeat Rap/Hip Hop.
I would've preferred he omitted "Half Your Age", added another Rap/Hip Hop in it's place. "Half Your Age" IMO is a 'filler'...it's lame, beneath Kid's talents lyrically and in voice...I don't hear emotion or energy from Kid when he's singing it...it's like he didn't show up for the game when singing "Half Your Age"...he's not feeling it at all, and the lyrics are lame by comparison to what they could have been. Another is 'When You Love Someone'...not a personal fav. My personal fav's with the slower tempo are 'Amen' & 'Roll On'.
I can think of only two Kid Rock songs I'm totally not liking & skip when the come up..."Half Your Age" and "Single Father". I appreciate the concepts of both songs, but the music and the lyrics I just don't feel are all they could of been, more 'filler' songs so to speak...and I don't hear emotion in Kid's voice when singing either, not like on other emotional 'personal relationship' related songs he's written & sings...Prodigal Son, Black Chick-White Guy, etc..
On top of what?
I think you are totally taking my statements and drawing your own conclusion. I did not say Kid Rock should not sing, I said Kid Rock is steering away from what made him who he is. I dont expect him to rap on every song, I expect him to rap on a song. I don't expect him to Make an album full of Amen's, I epect him to make an album of everything. Something along the line of Cocky.
Kid Rock is a great entertainer, possibly the best live performer around. However, This years show, was slower and filled with alot of filler.
i agree connie jo he did a lil of everything at darien lake in july had the time of my life and kev some of us still miss the old days 2 but the music is still hot thats why hes still on top
I dont know KR personally to say weather or not he has matured, but aging is a part of life. Like Angel said he is almost 40. He is just trying to make a living like the rest of us.Do you think he is compromising himself? Do you think he also doesnt like this new music of his, and he's only doing it to stay in the game, or is his taste in music just expanding?
But dont give up hope on the possibality that KR wil someday do an old school show. That would be a dream come true to me, and my sister and i would fly to whatever part of the country we had to to see it!!
Ya know...I told him once, that I wasn't in love with him like all the other girls were, but rather that I was in love with his voice, hahaha. I remember he had the oddest look on his face, LOL. We decided his voice was like that of a race car engine...well lubricated and kept cool it runs it's best, he laughed and said, "yeah! That's it! My voice is like a race car engine!"
I agree with you Kevin...he most definitely want's recognition and acceptance mainstream, & world wide. Why wouldn't he though...he accomplished all he set out to originally with DWAC. Hell, no one can beat perfection, not even Kid Rock. He'll never be able to top DWAC in the rap/hip hop genre...not in any aspect, including sales. Why not move on, stop while on top of the game, start playing another game you've not mastered yet. :)
LOL Elton is on his feet smiling from ear to ear towards Kid...so fricken excited Kid brought such emotion to his song & got that audience on it's feet! Every fricken person is on their feet ROCKING IT!! hahahahaha I'm loving it all over again!
I gotta be totally honest with ya Kevin. Though I love me some Kid Rock Rap/Hip Hop, and always will...& truly hope he does more someday...I also hope he continues to SING! Some may disagree, to each their own...but to my ear...Kid Rock has a GREAT singing voice! It's bluesy, raspy, got him some soul going on, can carry a note, full of emotion & energy.
Hell, just listen to Last Stand In Open Country...Kid's powerful voice makes that song! It would be lame without Kid's voice contributing to the duet with Willie. I hear little to no emotion in Willie's voice singing that song, but I hear much emotion in Kid's voice...he's feeling it when he sings it, he brings the song to life, literally!...that too makes a GREAT voice IMO. If they ain't feeling it when they're singing it...the music ain't shit to me. Kid's voice is powerful & emotional when singing. Apparently many artists agree, cause they're asking him to do duets from many genres, perform covers on tribute shows, etc..
Another great duet example of Kid's emotional & powerful voice is Honky Tonk Woman...again, the song would be shit without Kid's voice contributing...his body language in the video 'feeling the music' is so obvious! He can't hold still, haha...just like I can't sit still when listening to him sing & the music! I love the man's voice, I just do, I love the music too, all of it...and I'd be very sad if he did only Rap & Hip Hop without much if any singing. What a waste that would be of a great powerful, emotional, talented voice. :(
That's why I feel in love with Janis Joplin so many years ago...that same bluesy, raspy, soulsy voice style, and so very emotional and powerful when singing...she too 'felt' it when she sang...every fricken word in the lyrics.
I'm reminded of a few years back...the Kennedy Honors Tribute to Elton John, hahaha. I'll never forget all those high class socialite black tie guests in the audience...not moving a muscle in their f
Matured my ass.....
I love when you people say, He has grown up, He has matured..
BULLSHIT...
E-G-O
I choose not to under-estimate the musical & marketing intelligence of 'Rock' aka Bob Ritchie...not just yet, have no reason to...he's done well so far in theory. :)
Millions of music fans, specifically Country, which dominates...wouldn't let Kid Rock in the front door...so, he figured out a way to come through the back door! YEEHAW!! Next CD...reverse R&RJ...instead of one Rap/HIp Hop 'Sugar'...the next CD will be majorily Rap/Hip Hop with a couple songs another genre...Rock, Country, whatever. :)
Full of shit? Maybe...but what does it hurt to speculate? LOL :)
Kevin...I'm not explaining myself well tonight. Let me start over, as well as, elaborate further with a theory I've had since the news a few yrs back broke, that R&RJ would not be a Rap/Hip Hop CD.
Okay...yes, DWAC made Kid Rock a famous name, and to those of us in to the music we connected his famous name to his music. However, a vast majority were unfamiliar with Kid's music, regardless of the success of DWAC...they may have known the name Kid Rock, but they couldn't tell you what songs he sang, nor ever saw him perform, since believe it or not...not every one who listens to music watches VH1 & MTV, haha. Many only connected who Kid was by other celebrities he associated with...sadly, that includes Pam. Yes, many were exactly as you describe...yo mamma's! lol
My mom for instance, couldn't have told you anything about Kid Rock other than he dated & was engaged to Pam back in the early part of this decade. Well, my mom can now tell you what Kid Rock sings, because he crossed over to Country Radio, of which she listens to...and she has seen him perform on CMT, etc.. Now, don't get me wrong...Country Music has a HUGE fan base spanning all generations...not just my mom's, but even teenagers. It has the broadest fan base of any other genre...fact is fact.
The fact is...Kid Rock's recognition and musical celebrity status became more widespread, reaching across many generations with the success of R&RJ. He's received much more media attention as a result also. Old Skool fans may not like it, but it's fact. In the aspect of original musical genre forsaken, yes...it's sad. That said...I've seen the difference between this website & KRAA...there are over 12,000 members here...if memory is correct, I think there were 5,000+ at KRAA?
Now bare with me here in my personal theory, of which I may or may not be giving Kid too much advance musical marketing & business genius credit, haha. First...we know that radio wouldn't play Kid's
look have 15 songs on an album start out with a dirty ass old school hit, then r@b song that incledus my girl just the i got sunshine and then bust into some just some ole belly rubbing muzic for us olf folks old

if indeed you do the same thing over and over is insaine
insanity
anyways yall im gonna try and put a pictureOF THE BABY I GOT TODAY SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL
Connie you are so wrong, i went and read what you had said, DWAC made Kid Rock a household name..
END OF STORY
All Summer Long, quite possibly one of his dumbest songs, reminded people he was still alive.
BTW, Kracker wrote that song too
DWAC - 12 million plus
RNRJ - 3 million max
Connie, your logic is flawed, really..
Kid Rock made more money, made a name, and made a career of DWAC.
If RNRJ was his first album, he would be a one hit wonder.
All I can say is, I love it all. I'm not much into country, but he sings it well, infact I think he is the only one I can stand to handle singing country, but no I really don't want him to go that route. He does pretty damn good with blues, I do like a some blues, but he can sing it and I'll listen, and I don't want him to go that route either. But I do prefer him to keep it rap and rock, because I definitely would listen to it much much more.
You boys!! hahahaha Quit pickin on the Kid Rock! lol
I dont want him either. No. you keep him and no "give backs."
I don't want him! You keep him.
I have yet to attend a Kid Rock concert that he didn't perform Bawitdaba, Cowboy, OGKW in full!! Thank GOD!! I'd miss em for sure!
I will give ya this much...I do miss the pyro from the shows years past, & even the pole dancers, furs, bling, pimpin hats...all of that. He also performed many songs from DWAC on the R&RJ tour, that I saw anyway. No, he rarely does songs from Grits, such as yoddlin...but that's okay, I prefer DWAC songs to Grits songs anyway if having to choose set lists.
That's the beauty of music...it's timeless, never lost...you can always listen to the 'old skool' whenever you want. He had Rev Run on the R&RJ tour with him when I went, so I heard old skool rap live, as well as the new...perfect mix for me. :)
Why? Cause at every show I go I pray for that miracle of hearing "YODDLE", or anything in full from pre DWAC would be awesome! Connie I luv ya ,but I have to disagree with you Kevin got it right on this! These day`s every time I hear the begining of All Summer Long I pray It`s werewolf`s in London! Logic...... There is no LOGIC in KID`S WORLD!
BTW Kevin...any positive gain on your being aboard this coming April? I'm sure praying so!! Been too fricken long my friend!
Oh, & don't give me too much crap about my opposing Kid Rock views if you're planning on being on that ship come April...I'll get cha for it, hahahahaha. :)
From a logical business perspective...I know you 'get it' Kevin! I don't need to explain it to you.
However, for the sake of public awareness, hahaha...Kid Rock likely would've lost his contract with Atlantic had he released another CD comparible to DWAC. He HAD to enter mainstream USA & radio air play to not become a 'has been'. As a result of RR&J's success, Kid Rock has become more of a Nationwide household name than he was, and as such...he has been able to draw much attention to Detroit's (& Michigans) failing economy trying to help. Everything happens for a reason...& then some! :)
Heck, if truth be told...Kid Rock 'was' more known throughout America for his on & off again relationship with Pam than he was DWAC, & music prior & post...that is until R&RJ. YAY!! For KId Rock, and for TBT...his success is their success too with recognition, & so on.
Oh Kevin...this is one subject we do disagree on. I love it all...from Poly to R&RJ. I don't know about a Detroit show, sadly have never been...but, I can tell you the RRJ tour Kid Rock concerts in KC and Memphis had 90% young boobs & bodies, hahaha.
Possibly you've forgotten, or maybe it's just your mood at the time...but I remember when you heard R&RJ before it was released to the public, and you thought it was a good album with some good music!! No, it wasn't old skool, but you thought it was good...at least that one particular day, haha. :)
HA! Like you would have anything in common with the perkey titted ones!(for more than 15 min. I'd say, max!) Kevin, you're too much of an intellectual to be with those who flash their goods at a rock star! And you ain't 17 anymore my good friend! LOL
I know, it's fun to look though, and to get wrapped up in the fantasy for a millionth of a second.
You make me laugh though! I know, you like the old Kid songs, so do I, actually. But I've been known to rob the cradle here and there. HA!
Cut him a break, Hes almost 40... Ya gotta make Hay while the suns up...
I bet he misses the old days too but he makes more money with pop Rock thn hes ever gonna make with Rap.
And Katrina PPPPPFFFFT You aint lived until you spent a night ripped outta your mind flashin your titties for the band, lol
And I assure you my self esteem is Doin just fine.....
( or at least it was when I had tits the band wanted to see lol)
