For me it was the youtube video for Amen. That song takes me on a journey of sadness, pride, anger, faith and standing for what you believe in. It gives me hope that in doing the right thing for the right reason all will be ok in the end.
Tell me your story.....what song of Kid Rocks made you a believer???

I think he has a lot of funny lines in songs as well as the very serious. I tell ya Cater, the man gives me chills, makes me laugh and cry... I never had that with any other band I'm into.. Maybe a song or 2 but not all...

Like the Gr8 Joe C. (RIP) I have a disability. Something different then his but a pain in the ass any way but like him I totally can feel this one and it's the one that made me a fan. Down the road now though I can relate to so many of his great songs it's like he's always watching. I just wanna thank him though because there is nothing like the perfect song to get you through the tough times and if you all are like me, my music means the world to me and I doubt I could have made it here without it. Thanx Kid and all the other voices in my head that keep me singin'!

Amen opened up the Kid Rock world for me. When I heard it I knew I had to hear more of his work. Each song was a new discovery that wowed me. I'm still hearing "new to me" songs that tell the story of Kid Rock and his evolution as a songwriter. Good stuff!

Crazy4Rock... I am Catholic as well... But didn't you know, the best part of being Catholic is sin all you want and then go to confession, say a few Hail Mary's and Our Father's and your clear....lol.....

I love the line "three different kids by three different men..history repeats itself again." I love the way he makes that flow and it's just an awesome way to link the end of the song to the beginning.

"Only God Knows Why", immediately followed by "Black Chic, White Guy"

Two songs that lyrically give you a glimpse into his heart, his personal stories. I guess that is when I became a fan of him, in addition to the music.

I'm sure my ex has said a lot worse, lol!

Connie Jo_3's picture

I'm sorry, know what that feels like.

On a much lighter note...my 'X' did relate to "Low Life", hahaha. :)

Mz J's picture

American Bad Ass was the first song I heard. Everyone was into the wrestling shit.

Gooo Undertaker!

Connie Jo_3's picture

hmmmm...come to think of it...my 'X' didn't relate to 'Amen'...HA! Should've been another warning clue of what was to come! LOST SOUL! :(

Connie Jo_3's picture

If one can't relate to 'Amen'...their soul is in some serious trouble, haha. :)

MidWesternGirl_2's picture

Each time I have bought a different cd of his I do the same thing.....play it over and over...family quote "Don't you listen to anything else?" LOL

When I first heard the CD R&R Jesus, which I had the privilage of hearing prior to it's official release date...I just wasn't sure about it, haha...I was more use to 'old skool' KR/TBT. However, one of the first comments I made on a private KR related website, was that R&R Jesus was going to bring many new Kid Rock fans, of which would learn to appreciate the earlier music too...if they were truly to be KR fans at heart that is, haha. And, that would be a good thing for all. :)

It didn't take me long to appreciate & respect R&R Jesus as a new transition in Kid & TBT's music...I love it all, don't matter what genre...I'm gonna relate, connect, & feel it... if KR & TBT are doing it, haha.

That said, have to admit I'm not big on 'Half Your Age'...not because of the meaning behind the lyrics...just believe Kid could've done better with it lyrically, emotionally, considering his earlier songs related to 'negative' life experiences. I expected more lyrically from 'Half Your Age' when I first learned it was written related to his divorce from Pam. No doubt KR kept it respectible to some extent, haha.

DITTO!!

Bawitdaba is a a favorite! I use to say that 'Only God Knows Why' and 'Bawitdaba' were my fav KR songs, but that was long ago, and many have become fav's since. I can't pick a fav any more, at least 10 or so are all equal fav's now...including Roll On & Sugar, and 'Last Stand In Open Country' too...duet with Willie, also Honky Tonk Woman duet with Jerry Lee is a fav! I could go on & on, haha.

Well, actually if I was to be totally honest...'Somebody's Gotta Feel This', which I saw Kid performing in the stands with fans during an NFL game Coors Commerical. A friend from Germany had introduced me to Kid's music in 2000, the DWAC CD, and I fell in love with the music. However, I'd never seen Kid perform, and had no idea he was so full of energy, for lack of a better description, haha. His body language, moves...everything he did while performing in that commercial, told me that this guy was for real...felt the music, put emotion into it, gave more than 100%. From that day forward I made it my goal to see him live, which I did not long after. He hooked me for life after attending my first concert...ain't no turning back since, haha.

Only God knows why..."People don't know about the things I say and do, They don't understand about the shit that I've been through".....

this one I remember playing, new years 1999 my brother was drunk on the roof, cutting a tree branch off to go in the bonfire....

carolsue's picture

this is the one I heard first...

I was listening to a phoenix radio station, I called found out who it was a went straight to the store to buy it.

I was visiting my mom, in a little town called Coolidge, she was having a lot of heart problems...

I was trying to dig myself out the the mess I'd managed to make of my life, I think it was 1998 maybe 1997, I was pretty out there for way 2 many years... It took me another 2 years to finally get on the right track...

You know the weird thing is that I never saw a video until 2000 when I was in Nor Cal, with my big bro...
I didn't even know what he looked like, I just played that whole cd over and over and over again for years...

I burnt everyone out...
