I recently saw your add for the National Guard while waiting for a movie to start. I was especially struck by the moment when a United States Military Caravan somewhere in the Middle East stopped for a child who had run into the street. The soldiers were shown to be "great men" for such an action.
My brother-in-law was a driver in just such a caravan during the most violent time of the Iraq War and I hope he never sees the commercial you participated in. While driving in his caravan he was unable to stop quickly enough before he hit a child who had run into the street and was also never allowed to stop and see if the child was alive or dead. I know my sister's husband spends many nights thinking about that poor boy and his family while his beautiful 2 year old daughter sleeps peacefully in the next room. I hope he never finds another unfounded reason to believe himsef an evil man such as stumbling upon the National Guard commerical featuring the song and performance of KidRock.
Will War's undeserved romanticism ever end? Will it ever stop making good people believe they are evil? Will it ever stop making evil people believe they are good?

People need to QUIT blaming Kid Rock. What the crap? If you are going to write the state reps about the video, why don't you throw in every movie, tv show, song or news broadcast, that has anything to do about war , with it.
Lets all move on to another subject.
I already said this but once again...high praise to all the men and women who take an oathe to serve and protect us every day and night.. they know what they may encounter isn't always all glory by doing so. In addtion to what I've already said I didn't really view the disturbing portion of the video that upset Rachel as a convoy, it appeared to me as troops patrolling in a village. I have had more than one relative overseas in action (including my husband) and they have been a part of patrol units insuring the safety of the people who want them there.
I'm sorry here.... I know in my mind that everyone has a right to their opinions, okay? But two things that bother me most is 1) 9-11 TRUTHERS and that sort that ties in with it.
2) this BS of "I support the troops but not the cause" THATS BULL PUCKY. the cause is to win over tyrany and dictatorship so that their citizens can have the freedoms we take for granted everyday. The troops know this, they see it everyday. Our ancesters went thru this some 200 yrs ago. That woman who bought the house in Crawford next to Bush, Cindy Sheehan was it? Yeah, Dean (Husband) told me if I EVER do something like that he'll kill me from his grave. She is a Shame of the blue star moms. Just pathetic.
Dean and I have always talked very openly about this war, Since 9-11-01,and always the possiblity that he may not come back and being prepared for that. Being his third tour over coming up in weeks its at the forefront again. Jay also, has handled his legal issues with grace and responsiblity and going to MEPS in March of 09 in the Guard to be a Medic. Its done and dean and I couldn't be prouder of him. He wants to go to Iraq to save lives...he's ready.
Again I am reminded that I am NEVER to question the circumstance of fatality. EVER. No matter how fishy it may seem. Don't encourage any Unit spouses to either. Look what happend to to that pro football player? His family kept pushing it only to find out their son did something really stupid and got himself in the line of fire. Its bad for morale and the war as a whole. I knew the day I married I may one day be a widow of war or battle. I knew it going in as there is no draft, its chosen. If I have to sit next to the grave of a son or my husband I shall place no blame have no regrets and accept that folded flag with pride and dignity. I will do this only in respect to them, and of what they gave.

Uh.....hmmmm this is kinda touchy for me as alot of you know I'm an Army Wife. The convoy part is just dramatics as most already know this. Convoys CANNOT stop. period. I really think whoever it was writing to their congressman is taking it a bit too far. Yes its been endorsed by the Nat'l Guard USAR. KR and Dale Jr did the Commercial for their recruiting stats, DUH!
IMO and my experience over the yrs KR/TBT has shown UNWAVERING support for our soldiers and the cause. Both publicly and behind the scenes that dont ever get mentioned. To go complain about something like this is simply UN patriotic and frivolous.
2 big names supporting our troups, and encouraging others to fight for our freedoms is bad!! I just talked to my cousin who is a soldier, and they , the soldiers, ALL supported the video, and they love it! i suggest you all go to , or go back to www.nationguardwarrior.com and watch it as freedom loving americans!!! xoxo

Listen, i understand your brother in law is having a hard time with something that was most likely not his fault, but to condemn a commercial is sort of crazy. Do you think people that see the commercial are all analyzing it? War is a nasty thing, bad things happen, and I think everyone is well aware of that..

OK I just watched the video from beginning to end...I should have done this before...I seen the part with the child in the road and the soccer ball... but the caravan of soilders were in a village patrolling not down a desolent road...I don't see anything wrong with that scene. My own cousin rescued a dog in desert storm much the same way and had pics of him with some village children he played with. Rachael, I respect your opinion and good luck with all your plans to persue... referencing this video.
I do believe so Patricia since a KRC member is in the National Guard and highly praised the efforts of the video etc... I'm not condemning the Video surprised with what I mentioned above about the child in the road... does anyone know if the full length version in on the internet? Is that the full length version that has been posted on kidrock.com and one his myspace page?

I haven't seen the whole vidoe yet, but am surprised at what you mentioned about the caravan stoppingto help a child.. I was under the impression from family memebers in the Military that under no circumstances are they ever to stop for anyone in the road child, woman, etc... due to the likelyhood of a suicide bomber... prayers to you and your brother and family, also high praise to all the men and women who take an oathe to serve and protect us every day and night.. they know what they may encounter isn't always all glory by doing so.
