Memphis Memories Part 5: Goodbyes, Graceland Visit & Photos
Connie Jo says (24 Aug '08)

Carla & Phil had arrived from DC joining our group just as we were leaving St.Judes. It was wonderful seeing both again, especially considering how long it had been since we've seen Carla & Phil!! For those that know Carla & Phil...she still has one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen! Phil looked good too btw, haha.

We all returned to the hotel. Kenny & Shannon considered staying another night & joining us on Sunday, but decided it would be best for them to return to Nashville that evening & get back to business. It was an emotional goodbye, as goodbyes always are, & with all promising to see each other again soon. Kenny told Mike & I that 'Five Star Carni' plans to book a show within the Kansas City area & we'd see each other then for sure. No doubt Dillon & we will be first in line for the KC concert showing our support for Kenny, Shannon, & Five Star Carni, haha. :)

Personal thought...genuine friendships are indeed priceless. Spending time with those who truly care from deep within the heart is a definite emotional well being gift, of which, no value too high can be placed upon such, priceless. It was absolutely heartwarming to witness the compassion & love shown by Kenny & Shannon towards Dillon & at St.Judes. There was never a doubt in my mind that Kenny is one of Dillon's Angels on Earth, & the same can now be said of Shannon.

Saturday was a memorable, eventful, emotional, & fun day, but, also exhausting. Most were still tired from the long drive in. We decided to eat dinner at the Spaghetti Factory, then all head to our rooms for some much needed sleep.

Sunday morning we all gathered again & headed to Graceland. Rather than write about our visit to Graceland, I'll simply let the photos speak for themselves. However, I do want to add that what overwhelmed me most about visiting Graceland...were the multitude of awards displayed throughout the home & out buildings, of which Elvis acquired in his 22 yr career span...absolutely mind boggling to see so many awards given to one artist, a historical accomplishment of which I seriously doubt any other artist will ever be able to surpass.

LOL My mom actually fought a lady over one of Elvis' sweat towels he threw into the audience, haha. Mom claims to have grabbed it first, then the lady began to try to take it from her. Mom won, haha. It has Elvis' stage make up all over it...kind of gross really, lol.

I don't think anyone can claim to be a fan of music, especially Rock n Roll & not be at least a tiny bit a fan of Elvis. I'd say I'm a pretty big fan, but not as big a fan of Elvis as I am Kid Rock & TBT. :)

Thanks Kool!

Yes, Dillon is shaving now! haha Can you believe it?!! He's so grown up, driving too!

Lily's about the same, occasional seizing, but not as severe or lengthy so far. Hoping that's due to thyroid meds working. We'll know in a few days if her dose is at a therapeutic level.

I'm really pissed at my Vets office personel right now, long story with boarding her there while in Memphis, their not caring for her up to our standards. I may end up switching vets as a result. :(

About Graceland...see, I actually enjoyed the Interior Design, but Interior Design has always been my life's passion, & career, haha. Professionally speaking the Interior Design of Graceland would be labeled 'Eclectic'. However, overall the feeling was one of Modernism, with touches of Vegas glamour no doubt, as well as Traditional pieces...but, done quite well actually.

That said, most aren't fond of Modern design style. It's definitely not my preference or personal style, but, I can appreciate & understand the design principles involved with such a style. It's also a very expensive design style to achieve professionally, even so today.

Love that you share this with us, Connie! I miss Carla and Phil. I was just thinking about them the other day.

Does Dillon have facial hair? Wow, he is getting all grown up and such a cutie!!

How is Lilly?

Thanks Brenda. To be quite honest, I thought maybe you might sneak in on us & surprise us by coming to Memphis, haha. Oh well, there WILL be a next time. :)

Yes, Dillon most definitely has changed lives for the better...with every path he crosses in life blessings surely follow. :)
