    Getting Something Off My Chest...
    Posted by
    December 02, 2008

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and get something off my chest (as you all probably know Im not a big blogger! But I do read my website and myspace page when I have time, and thank you for all the kind words and shout outs!).

I headed to Europe last Friday for a small tour and then am most likely going back to the Middle East to entertain our troops for the holidays (again!) I'd be lying if I didn't mention its kind of bittersweet due to the fact that I petitioned the judge (Alvin T. Wong, Dekalb County, Georgia) in my "Waffle House" case so that the 80 hours of community service he sentenced me to would be served by my holiday trip to entertain our troops (for my 3rd Christmas and 4th time!). Apparently he thinks it's more important that I do something else rather than sing, shake hands, take pictures and spend time with the men and women who put themselves in harms way to protect the very freedoms he and all of us live by. I really take it as a slap in the face, and really have trouble thinking of a better way to "serve the community," especially at Christmas time when it's obviously the hardest time for soldiers to be away from their families and home (and I try not to think about it when Im there, but its a little freaky being in the middle of a war zone!). Its not that I dont take responsibility for my actions, because I do, and I have, in more ways than one. The case got so much press (a lot of it very silly press) that I decided before I even went to court that I would have a fundraiser at a local Georgia Waffle House and donate the money to a local Dekalb County homeless shelter that helps families get back on their feet (we raised close to 20 thousand dollars for that shelter).

I figured I would use the opportunity to turn a negative into a positive (The judge didn't seem to care to much about that either, but whatever, that wasn't about anything other than using the media BACK to do some good!). Im sure a lot of you will comment on this and in a weird way it will make me feel a little better, but either way this judge will leave a bad taste of ignorance in my mouth, but I dont let even the DEVIL get me down so, WHATEVA!! Well, thats my rant, I hope Im doing the right thing by sharing my feelings (I'm usually better at it on a song!!). So in ending I would just like to wish all of you, my friends, a happy holiday season. Thank you for all your support, I truly appreciate each and every one of you! God Bless!

Kid, Sorry to hear about the petition being denied. Being involved with the troops, in my opinion, is not only honorable, but needed so much. The moral of the troops is so important at this time and the work you do in the Middle East with the USO is priceless. I am involved in an organization that helps service members and their families that are in financial hardship because of deployments and the war. We do not give loans, but instead, grants. We do many fundraisers and events and there would be ample opportunities for volunteering your time and talent at any of them, if you were interested. Among other things, right now we are organizing a concert for the troops. Would love to have you! Please feel free to visit our website http://www.usacares.org/ or email me at jfox@usacares.org As a side note... i am a huge fan and want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you do for the Troops and other charities. May God Bless you, and may you and yours have a wonderful holiday. ~jenn

Two things....... 1- Your music is awesome. You have kept me entertained for many hours and I want to thank you for that. I also thank you for all the good you do. Do more!!! 2- As to what the judge wants - Get the fuck over it. Do whatever he asks and move on. Life is too short to worry about stuff like that. Happy Holidays back at you from South Haven, MI
Fan_101's picture

Hey bro. I dug your stuff from the first moment I heard it. Thanks for the music. But.you screwed up. You go rock n roll in a waffle house and you have to pay the price. The judge is trying to teach you a small lesson. Accept it. Learn from it. Be a nicer dude the next time you blow into a waffle house for it and continue to make killer music. If I were the judge, I would have said no too.then ran out and bought your next album. Thanks again man.

Listen here Philly Tom and GJacobson I think you guys have taken this all wrong. The isssue at had is that the Judge has over steped his bounds and goes on to say that he does theses things for publisity? Not his place He is a Judge and that is were it ends. and Traveling to a war zone to help build moral for our men and women in service-- is community service no matter how you see it. He does not have to do it but he does because that is how he knows to give of him self. This is all gotten way out of hand he had fight in a waffle house were he was provolked to defend him self and his Lady friend. The only people that were harmed was the stupid guy who should have minded his own business if he did not have anything nice to say And the Waffle house had to fix there window and they got lots of publicity and I know Bob paid his dues to them and to the Dekalb community. Which is way more than any other offender gets or does for fighting or oweing say Mega Child Support. He is clearlly being singled out as a " Celeb" because in most places you can pay to have your community service done by others. He simply asked that his 144 or so hours of travel to Iraq and expence be counted as his community service. So your statement "Grow up" Who the hell are you.. F--- Y-- you are no fan Just single minded like the stupid Judge. Punishment for what defending himself. It would be different if he did something wrong but in this case he did not.
Fan_102's picture

I think the judge is trying to make Kid Rock do something that isn't connected to his occupation. Perhaps he might consider serving food in a soup kitchen, volunteering at a senior center or else volunteering in a hospital, to take patients to x-ray, etc. To get into a fight was somewhat childish on the groups part, it only caused them to stoop as low as the persons who started the fight. And we all know that Kid Rock is not childish. But the judge seems to want him to do a community service of something other than what Kid Rock does so well, entertain. Perhaps if he looked at it that way, the judge might be more understanding. You will be amazed how your attitudes change when you are helping people directly, not just letting the money do the talking.
Fan_103's picture

Below is a copy of an e-mail I sent to the Judge. Come on "Rock" be an adult. Also thank you for all you do for our troops and other charities. Keep it up! Merry Christmas. ____________________ Your Honor, I am a fan of Kid Rock (Robert Ritchie). I just left his website where he vented regarding your recent ruling denying his 80 hours being roled into his USO trip. Kid Rock does many charitable things things throughout the year which I commend him for. He has also has travelled as part of of the USO three times (going on four). These are all great things he has done and is doing for the community. As a Judge, your decision was the correct one. Just because a person has on his/her schedule to perform chariatable activities doesn't not mean they can committ crimes without "punishment". The "punishment" being out the way to something special beyond a prepared event. Thank you for the clear ruling in this matter!
Fan_104's picture

You have been "sentenced" to perform community service for what you did. If you wish to see entertaining American Troops as a sentence, that's up to you. Personally, I think you should look at it as an honor and privilege rather than a necessary punishment for breaking the law. I fully support the troops. I also applaud anyone who wants to entertain them because they want to do it...not because they've been sentenced to do it. If you're not one to shirk your responsibilities, then don't. Stop whining, grow up, be Adult Rock for 80 hours, and don't think you should get off the hook because you've got talent. I'm sure everyone serving time will tell you they've got plenty of talent , too. Look at Martha Stewart, lol. I'm sure she would have rather been taking pictures, shaking hands, etc. It takes quite an ego to decide one's own punishment. Do your 80 hours. Then go and entertain the troops because it's part of you pride...not because it's part of your guilt. And if doing the 80 hours conflicts with your tour...whose fault is that???
Fan_105's picture

I thnk that you are playing for and entertaining our troops is a wonderful and admiral thing for you to be doing. But I think the point of this Judge may be being overlooked. I am not forming an opinion since I dont have all the facts involved but just am stating there may be another side to consider. He may be trying to treat you as if you are not a rock star though Im sure most people think the oppisite. Just consider this though, if you werent Kid Rock you would helping local people in some way in the community where your violation occurred. I am sure there are presents for CHristmas that need to be wrapped for foster children in the area, Patrol cars or Fire Engines that need to be washed, food banks that need help, etc...I think the Judge may want you to serve your community service without fanfare, cameras, or even a blog on your page about how it is served. You broke a law and have to pay back for that, I wouldnt get to choose what community service that I received , why should you? I think its just somthing to consider. I hope you will continue to do your good work for the troops and any other charites you may support. But I think this may be a personal issue that has nothing to do with music or who you are. Is it a possibilty that may be the message the Judge is trying to convey? God Bless and keep up the good work you are doing, NC911
Fan_106's picture

DUDE Its called punishment. Do you think any of the rest of us could pick our punishment. I wouldn't want to go over there for punishment because I would want the troops to know its from the heart. GROW-UP KID !!!

Kid, I belong to an organization called Rolling Thunder. We are a Veterans support organization. I have provided our National website for your review ... www.RollingThunder1.org ... check us out, we could use your help in raising awareness for the POW/MIA issue AND I think the Judge would have no issue with our group IF you choose to work with us. That makes me sick....You should not have been denied your request, this guy is an idiot. You do so much above and beyond and give so much back, this guy is a real jackass. I'm sure your trip to see the troups isn't an easy process, not to mention you're away from your own family AND you don't do it for the press either, because you don't make a huge announcement about it - you're not doing it for anything other than the hardworking people over there defending our country. I have always totally admired you - completely - for years....I was VERY fortunate to have met you in Charleston, SC in Feburary, you were busy with the Blender Magazine photo shoot but totally walked away from it, came over with a smile and totally made my entire year! I couldn't thank you enough for being so sweet and I know you're hounded everywhere and probably get really tired of it, but you were the nicest!!!! It's people like you that give diehard fans the moment of a lifetime - you know in your heart what you do is good, is the right thing and for this judge to deny your request is pathetic! Hope you have a wonderful Holiday!!!!! xo Suzi
Fan_108's picture

What? You don't get credit for community service for doing something you had already planned to do (and that will promote your career.) Go sing. And when you get back pick up some trash, remove some graffiti, and then go speak to some school kids about how they shouldn't get drunk, get stupid, and get in fights. Your shelter project is a great example of how you could serve the community where you messed up. Do more of that.

Happy Holidays and safe journeys to you and yours. God Bless you for taking the time to remember our troops at the craziest time of year. My personal opinion is that Judge Wong, as well as many here just don't appreciate what your everyday life if like. You have an enormous following and lots of people who love you, not all of them know how to behave. I can only imagine what a toll that takes on your personal life, yet you still work hard to maintain a "normal" life. I can't imagine there are many jobs in Debalk (sp) County GA that pay $10K a week (80 hours = 2 weeks = 20K). It seems as though someone is trying to take advantage and that's unfortunate. Perhaps they are looking to gain further revenue from the media trying to catch you doing your community service? I wonder if they've taken into account your safety and security and what it would cost to make sure you're able to fulfill your sentence safely. Perhaps the answer is simply to invite Judge Wong along with you to Iraq so he can better understand exactly what is involved in pulling a trip like this off and how much it means to those you do it for. God Bless and thank you for all you do

I have been to 5 of your concerts this tour so far (hope to make it to more) I am a hard working American who supports our troops. One of my favorite parts of your concert has been the feeling of patriotism. Giving back to those who keep us safe and free is an honor. In my opinion the judge is wrong. One more thought, I wanted you to know; I know AC/DC is one of your "inspirations" And my friend and I went to latest concert in Indiana ....and both of us looked at eachother and said "as great as this is? given the choice between going back for a Kid Rock show or the AC/DC show...Kid Rock hands down. Have a great holiday and hope to see another show soon!! Cath in St. Louis

Dude~ You know in your heart.... that you are right. And truly that's all that matters. If this judge is going to continue to be a prick, just understand.... karma... what comes around goes around... All you can do at this point is suck it up and if you can, do what you want to do with giving back to the community. There is nothing more important right now than the people that fight for our country and freedom. And by giving to them especially on Christmas, is probably the best thing for your soul. That's the truth dude. Look at it positively if you can and realize that you have an extra opportunity to give back even more because of a prick judge. Peace out... Sugar..... from Michigan....

Im sorry the judge is an a hole! I will be sure to let the judge know how I feel. Your the best Kid Rock! Love you!! Happy holidays baby! Sandra from East Los Angeles, CA

Hey Bob, I had left a comment the other day about what has happened with the judge in GA and have been reading what other people have left for you since then. I had known your music and who you were for a long time but because of circumstances I had not taken the time to really become a fan until recently. Your music has touched my life in ways you will never know. And after reading some of the comments left by other members of the community and finding out really what kind of man and person that you are, I am all the more moved by all you do. Now I dont think youre a saint; Im glad youre not. But you are REAL and that is an uncommon thing to see today. You are a special person Bob Ritchie. Dont ever let anyone tell you any different. And as you can see from the outpouring of support you are receiving from us, we are behind you all the way. Like you said, you aint even gonna let the Devil get you down. Hes just pissed because he thought he had you, but the light that comes from you is something even he couldnt put out. Please be safe and watchful in all your travels in the Middle East and thru Europe. Come home safe to us. We love you. Rock on little brother. Melissa in VA

My only daughter has been to iraq and back and says the entertainment that comes to see them is what keeps them going. It lets them know that they are still human and being thought of. This dip**** of a judge needs to go in my daughter or my son-in-laws place and see first hand what you and other entertainers mean to them. But that would take a set that he doesn't have. Unlike yourself. Thank you for all you do for our boys and girls over seas, it is appreciated more than you realize. Bless you and yours!

Hi Kid- I have only been a fan since Oct.2007 after we saw you in Cincinnati at the Taft Theater and then again in Aug. on a beautiful summer evening at Riverbend. Little did my husbad know what a HHHUGE Kid Rock groupie I would become!!!(as much as a married 24 yrs. with 2 kids good woman kinda girl can be!!) I admire how you've fought your way to the top and never given up. You've been treated unfairly many times in my opinion but always manage to be the" Bigger man " and come out on top....except in this case I would'nt suggest peeing on the judges couch....!!! HA!!(I hope I made you smile:)... was this true??!! Anyway , I have become a fan not only of your music but also of you because of your strong commitment to doing whats right even if it not popular. I am touched by the fact you sacrifice spending Christmas with your family to be with the troops. I love the ingenious way you work the media ie. Steal everything... and sending out this blog to us instead of you sending one e-mail to the judge ...genious!!! I'm not so sure the judge will like you any better after he gets e-mails from most of the us military and all your fans around the world (congrats on the pop artist award!) but I think he will definetly get the point! I will be happy to e-mail the judge and suggest your trip count for at least half of the 80 hrs. (should be all in my opinion) if you give me a shout back and let me know if your ok with that suggestion. ( can't blame a girl for trying!!!) A personal e-mail from you would be hot! All the best to you and your family and have a safe but amazing time with the troops. You know we love you! Hope this helps a little. Love, Linda

I would suggest, which I already have done, send an email telling that idiot of a judge what a disgrace he is and how can he call himself an American. Kid Rock is an awesome performer (saw him 3 going on 4 times) and I am sure that those troops love that he does that even without a court order to do it. I also said that he should be a shamed calling himself an American for those troops risk their lives every second of their day and he can turn around and do that?? Screw him! And Rock on Bobby! I will see you in A/C on 2/13/09!

Yeah, when I posted that last, I was mistakenly thinking the incident took place downstate... Georgia. I think judges way down there probably have a long and much nastier history of being pricks, huh? At any rate: dust the shelves, speak your mind, save the world :-)
Fan_132's picture

Dude, by all means, go dust shelves at a library for 80 hours if that's what this prick needs to feel his stroke. Record it, get it to YouTube (daily? hourly?) and criticize and speak and plead the 1st the whole way through it just to piss him off. For twenty-five plus years we've been putting up with prick judges (and one high-on) up Leelanau County way, and it's fairly recently that I see in the Free Press that judges down there are starting to act the same way... Chances are, if any of us civilians up here were to do the same thing, they'd haul us back into court for a trumped-up violation of probation charge. You, sir, could help set precedent... :-) FYI: met Kenny O back in '83, long before I played drums or even knew he played guitar. Love what you did with him, love what you've done since, and thanks for helping to keep people looking at Deetroit and our State in general!

Bob, I am sickened by your motion being denied. I can see in his ("THE JUDGE") motion that he has a bad attitude towards you. Fucking asshole has no clue. I agree with you that you should be pissed, however as we all know the judicial system makes no sense, there is no rhyme or reason. The fact that you raised $20k for the local homeless shelter speaks volumes, too bad the judge is a deaf fuck. Thanks for getting if off your chest, that always seems to help. Much love and support...rock on Caprice Loveland, CO -- cant wait to see you in Greeley, Colorado July 3rd '09!

OMG!! 'Kid' you give a lot of yourself, for alot of good!! The judge is a Big "D" & Wong is Wrong (hehe) for his decision. But you know what?? Fuck him! Lifes to short and yeah it's all a money game with the court systems. I just wish you " Happy Holidaze", you, your family & your band family. God Bless you & keep you safe while on your journey over there. Return safely & we are right here waiting for your return. Give the Troops A Big wooh ha for all of us back here in the " D". Remember you can unload on us anytime! Peace, Love & Rock On ! God Bless, MJ

I'm gonna offer to do the hours for you. I live close enough to drive if week ends can be arranged. I'll make a call and see. You are right, Christmas is when you're needed most of there. I thought the same about the importance of being there at Christmas and tried to get there this Christmas to volunteer where the soldiers are receiving immediate medical attention before being transported to other medical facilities. I wanted to be able to pray for them in that time, hopefully with a bit of a smile on my face to maybe encourage or comfort them in that time too maybe. I thought I could help at least change linens, clean or something to help & do it with a smile, but no luck. I was told to just send a phone card. :( My thought was how could I give where it would really count. Many of them have given many Christmas times & I was thinking that visitors/ support / volunteers would be low at that time and since I have been blessed to spend every Christmas with my family, I thought if I gave this Christmas I would really be giving my best. So you are on the right page that Christmas is when YOU'RE need most. Take care & God Bless. Bobbie Jean

Hi Bob- First I want to thank you for all of the wonderful things that you do. My husband and I had the absolute time of our lives at the Tabernacle (the night of the incident) last year and all I can say is I was disappointed we were not able to help you out in the "fray". I usually frown upon the thought of my husband going to jail, but for the wonderful time we had, it would have been worth it. We have since been to five more of your concerts this year. Each and every time you never fail to sincerely thank everyone for coming out and spending their "hard earned" money. Each and every time, no matter how exhausting it must be, you give everyone a memorable and impressive show, and a break from the daily ax grind. My husband and I both felt compelled to write to Judge Wong on your behalf. I honestly do not believe that if this incident involved anyone else rather than you (ok--and maybe Lindsey Lohan or Brittany) it would have gotten this much attention. You are being unfairly judged by your "career" and status and not on a common sense basis. At this moment, I am truly ashamed to be a Georgia native (okay---there have been other times too). Perhaps a contribution to his next political campaign will ease this and it will go away....sadly, that is still how the good ole boy system works down here. Keep your head up and know there are people you will never know that appreciate you. I believe you to be a truly honest, generous and decent person with only one mistake that I have seen.....the P.A. thing. For God's sake, can't you just find a decent, regular nice girl! I hope you, your family and the TBTB (especially Steffanie---Hey Girl!) have great holidays in spite everything. Thanks for everything! Denise

dear Rock, i'm an italian guy, your great great fan. I think you are the best of the american music, and you know how to mix musical qualities with a strong image: finally, art and show, no? I changed, over my bed, the picture of Metallica for the yours. And i changed my favourite basketball team: i was for Supersonics, but now for the great Pistons. I want to tell you about a problem i have: i try, in my neighbourhood in Italy, to change the form of making music and living the art: i want something closer your style, but the people don't want to renew: what can i do? Do you understand me? was it the same for you in the beginning? Ok, Rock, at least you keep on going for me and the many people who love you. Your Chucky.

Well, your heart is in the right place. You must answer for only what you do ....others must answer for what they do. It's a shame more people aren't aware of the wonderful things you do for others that are never publicized. FOR EXAMPLE: you met of friend of mine backstage at the recent CMA awards show. Because of the tragic loss she suffered in 2005, and your compassion for that loss, you got her contact information and sent her and her children a little "sumpin', sumpin'". Certainly not something expected for you to do......but certainly appreciated.... by not only her, but her friends and family as well. Those expressions of kindness will always come full circle. Happy Holidays to you, and God bless all that you do, and those who's lives you touch.
