    Getting Something Off My Chest...
    Posted by
    December 02, 2008

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Holiday and get something off my chest (as you all probably know Im not a big blogger! But I do read my website and myspace page when I have time, and thank you for all the kind words and shout outs!).

I headed to Europe last Friday for a small tour and then am most likely going back to the Middle East to entertain our troops for the holidays (again!) I'd be lying if I didn't mention its kind of bittersweet due to the fact that I petitioned the judge (Alvin T. Wong, Dekalb County, Georgia) in my "Waffle House" case so that the 80 hours of community service he sentenced me to would be served by my holiday trip to entertain our troops (for my 3rd Christmas and 4th time!). Apparently he thinks it's more important that I do something else rather than sing, shake hands, take pictures and spend time with the men and women who put themselves in harms way to protect the very freedoms he and all of us live by. I really take it as a slap in the face, and really have trouble thinking of a better way to "serve the community," especially at Christmas time when it's obviously the hardest time for soldiers to be away from their families and home (and I try not to think about it when Im there, but its a little freaky being in the middle of a war zone!). Its not that I dont take responsibility for my actions, because I do, and I have, in more ways than one. The case got so much press (a lot of it very silly press) that I decided before I even went to court that I would have a fundraiser at a local Georgia Waffle House and donate the money to a local Dekalb County homeless shelter that helps families get back on their feet (we raised close to 20 thousand dollars for that shelter).

I figured I would use the opportunity to turn a negative into a positive (The judge didn't seem to care to much about that either, but whatever, that wasn't about anything other than using the media BACK to do some good!). Im sure a lot of you will comment on this and in a weird way it will make me feel a little better, but either way this judge will leave a bad taste of ignorance in my mouth, but I dont let even the DEVIL get me down so, WHATEVA!! Well, thats my rant, I hope Im doing the right thing by sharing my feelings (I'm usually better at it on a song!!). So in ending I would just like to wish all of you, my friends, a happy holiday season. Thank you for all your support, I truly appreciate each and every one of you! God Bless!

    Kid Rock

Hey Rock, I've been following you for years now and listen to your music everyday, I'm not even kidding. Nothing but respect for you, but your comments hit me the wrong way. I'm kind of on the side of the judge. You were going over there anyway and planned on doing it for the troops, not to get out of community service over here. Suck it up, do the trip for the troops and deal with the community service when you get back. Complaining ain't going to do a damn thing. PS. Don't take this the wrong way... YOU ROCK. GO REDWINGS!! !!

Dear Bob, I know that you bring joy to the soldiers every time you visit them in Iraq. And, I am sure that you will continue to go to Iraq even if there were no cameras or media coverage because you get joy in spreading your music, your gratitude and your spirit to others. So, even if this one preson told you NO, it seems to me that you never let this stop you before. DON'T LET ANYONE STEAL YOUR JOY! Continue to go to Iraq and entertain our troops. They need it. No, they deserve it! They protect the freedoms of this great country and keep us all safe. And to them, I am truly grateful. As far as the community service goes, maybe you could help with habitat for humanity in New Orleans? Or, help rebuild a playground in Detroit? I am sure that you will find another way to spread the good word and help others. Stay safe and focus on the positive! God Bless and Merry Christmas. Laissez les bon temps roulez! Your friend from Louisiana, Kelley

Coming from a military family, I say wow....wow.....wow........emailed the judge with the question of who will benefit more......the American Soldiers away from their families for the holidays or the trash on the side of the highway in GA. Mr. Ritchie, what you do for our troops, the peeps of N'Awlins, and especially how your music makes us feel alive and free again, I thank you. As you have said when asked if you should have been a 70's rocker, YOU were born at the right time, we all need a real musical genius and the TBT Band to help let us escape the woes of the world in which we live in today. Because we all do know that rock N roll does save the soul.

I live in Georgia and felt compelled to send Judge Wong an e-mail: Judge Wong, I am a Kid Rock fan for many reasons but let me tell you one of the many reasons I think he is such an amazing man. I will attach a picture so you can see the heart of what I am about to tell you. Dillon Moody is a St. Jude's cancer patent he has had inoperable brain cancer for 11 years. He has overcome many obstacles in his years and with the help of Kid Rock's music and Kid Rock's heart Dillon has lived. When I say lived I mean he has gone place he would never have gone, he has met people he would never have met; me being one of them; did I tell you I live here in Georgia; I do. In 2004 Kid Rock took the time to meet this young boy he had heard so much about. Not only did he meet Dillon but he gave him t-shirts and other gifts that helped Dillon keep the faith. Dillon listens to "Only God Knows Why" when the battle of cancer is too much for his young 16 years. Did you hear about this in the news? Did you know he often does random kind things for other charities? Do you know he quietly makes donations to worthy causes? Guess not! You truly know nothing about Kid Rock and his kindness, you know nothing about why he goes overseas and joins the troops for Christmas, if he did the things he does for the CAMARA TIME then answer me this, why would he not make sure the media was in the loop of all of the charitable things he does? Judge Wong you should be ashamed of what you have said and done you are a disgrace to my home state as well as my country. Sincerely, Phyllis ___________ 404-___-____

I am so thankful for "strong headed" people like yourself! Kid, you have been turning bad situations into something positive for sometime now. You turned the Waffle House situation into something that did some good for many people. You seem to find the good in many things in life. Credit is often not given to you when it is due but you do not seem to do these things to seek the glory or the choir boy image. It just comes from the goodness from within. You truly have a heart of gold. You set a great example for others whether you do it knowingly or not. Your son should be so proud that he has a father that wants to go and spend time taking a little bit of home to these soldiers during the holidays. That judge has sadly misjudged this situation by not letting you count this as a community service. You know, he obviously has not ever heard that if you step on people in this life, you're going to come back as a cockroach. Well, a cockroach he'll be! Judge Wong may not quite know what the taste of good heartedness taste like. Although I am sorry you did not get out of the community service, I know that you will again turn that crazy situation into something good. Thanks for all you do! Keep on making that awesome music. I hope to see concert # 5 if you ever get back to Texas! God Bless You and have a safe trip to the Middle East.
Belinda_8's picture

The judge's decision is ridiculous. What you have done and are doing for our troops should be sufficent to satisfy the 80 hours of service. I am aware of many that are required to do community service and just have someone sign off on it, without performing 1 hour of it. I know the US Soldiers appreciate all that you do for them. My hope is that you will take refuge in the fact that so many in the world love you and your music. I like what you said about not letting the Devil get you down. Who knows, maybe when you do the community service you will meet someone that inspires you or someone that you inspire. I truly believe that everything will work out for your good, you are the Rock N Roll Jesus!!! By the way, I left my jacket at your house in TN or the limo......and it's getting cold here in Texas!

I feel that what you are doing is not just a community service to a county, or a State but to a Nation! Sorry that the highly educated judge does not see it that way. Judges usually get on power kicks and thats why they do what they do. Oh well. Know that theres a "Higher Judge." Do whats right in your heart and karma will follow its course. When you see all the excitement on the soldiers faces I dont think that anything else will matter-you will know that it was a good deed. Be safe and we will pray for you! XO Jillian in CA

Hey Kid, Just a few thoughts on the judge's refusal to let you serve 80 hours of community service in Iraq, entertaining the troops. Up here in "The Great White North" community service is almost always PART of a sentence, not the entire thing. I have always believed that the community service part of a sentence (usually paired with fines and probation) was given as a way of making restitutiion to the community, which supposedly was "harmed" by the original crime. The punishment part of the sentence (fines/probation) were to teach the "anti-crime" lesson. Personally, I think it's most likely sour grapes on the judge's part. He just really doesn't want you to actually enjoy what you do for the community service. Hopefully others will learn from your well set example: this could apply to any community service sentence, so if you are sentecnced to community service in a soup kitchen, for example, but you love to cook, make damn sure the sentencing judge doesn't find out!!! Keep up the great work. All the best to you and yours for the Holiday Season. XO KidsLittleMissy
Danniella's picture

That is wrong in my opinon also! They say the truth shall set you free, but who's truth is this, the judge's as it appears. Do you have to do your community service hours in GA then? I'd have a solution for you if you needed to do community service in MI. Enjoy the roller coster, roll on! Love ya, Danni T from the D.

Always focus on the positive- negativity is crap. Kudos to you for the fundraiser that you and your band did for the Dekalb County homeless shelter. (I work in Western NY with homeless MICA individuals and know the desperate needs). You have demonstrated much more empathy, compassion and responsibility through your actions than much more of the general population does in a lifetime. I want to personally thank you for going to the Middle East for the holidays....I have a young nephew in Iraq, and my son may be joining soon as well. As a single mom and parent who has raised her son alone since he was 11 months old- I am appreciative of your contributions and sincere gestures to our troops. As far as singing, shaking hands and taking pictures? Sing louder, shake as many hands that come your way and take all the more pictures!! (I am not a real picture taker, memories are in my head) But whatever our men and women can tangibly hold onto and be comforted with- so be it! Sounds to me like the DEVIL is an ignorant judge in Georgia, didn't the devil go down to Georgia looking for a soul to steal? Maybe he found one. My motto: Shit happens and crap occurs- let it roll off of you and move on with your head held high. You are doing a wonderful thing this, and the 3 past, holidays. Happy Holidays!!

The jealousy that surrounds you is positively insane. Just keep on keepin' on like you've done for years. Eventually, "they" all get the proverbial "What goes around comes around" slap in the face. You know who who loves ya babe. Thanks for all you do, Angela PS Somebody spelled the Judge's name Wong...er Wrong...he's Wrong? What? I'm confused... Silly...couldn't resist.

Bob it shows just the kind of person you are to blog on this subject when it would have been so easy for you to keep this quite. You have a really big heart and you have done so much good work with our troops. Don't let this incident stop you from looking out for them. Some of the of these comments IMO have been somewhat harsh I find it very hard to understand why people can't see how you feel right now. It seems to me what my granny told is true people only remember the bad that you do. This judge and some of the others with the harsh words have forgotten: When you donated all the money from your concert in Norfolk, Va my home state to the victims and their families of the USS Cole Attack. My friend Sean hasn't back in Sept. when I told him I was going to your show first thing he said was "Kid Rock is cool he always looks out for us troops." I don't know what the big deal was you weren't doing anything more than anybody else would have done and trust Sugar on this there are people doing things that would make your head fall off, roll across the floor, back up, and roll back on to you getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Just put this thought in your mind there are countless people you help in ways you just don't know or understand I am one of them. Through your music I have found solace, through the friends I have meet by being a fan I have found support that I never thought could exist, some helluva good times with many more to come, and by you being you I have found a strength in me that I didn't know I had because my outlook on things has totally gone in a better direction. Happy Holidays To You and TBT and your families p.s. Please be careful over there sounds silly but I worry about while you are in the Middle East. Love Sugar

While I think it sucks, I do understand the logic behind not allowing you to use your holiday middle east "tour" (for lack of a better word) as your community service. I think that there are numerous "in"famous people before you that have continously taken advantage of things like that and that is what ruined the opportunity for you. Further, to be quite honest nobody on the planet really gives a flying rats' ass that you got pissed off in a Waffle House. The only thing that made it media worthy is that it was you and not some angry truck driver. Given the judge's obnoxious attitude in wording his Order, I would suspect that he thinks your time would be better served darning socks for the military opposed to entertaing them and taking their minds off their situation, if only for a little while. Whenever ours paths have crossed, you have always been a rather refreshing, normal person. People get pissed. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to reach through a drive-thru window and stomp a mudhole in someone's ass. It's just human nature. Stupid is stupid regardless of whether you're in a Waffle House or Ruth Chris'. Anyway, take care and enjoy your holidays. Nashville misses you. (Including the Waffle Houses). ----- Your neighbor on the West End of Nashville.

Hey Bob!! Happy Holidays to you and your family!! I appreciate you sharing your thoughts with us and giving us the opportunity to respond to you. Buzz was all over the community yesterday that you blogged!!!!! Love to see more of it when possible, hint hint! :) I definately do not agree with the Judge's denial in regards to your petition. My opinions of our judicial system as a whole are those of great disgust (usually) and this is a perfect example of that in itself! I think he wanted to get his name in the press as the one who made, "Kid Rock" pay for his "actions". Wong was WRONG and should have allowed your time to entertain our military be enough to satisfy the 80 hours PERIOD. Regardless of the fact that you've gone over b4..yada, yada. God bless you for taking the time to entertain our troops who serve this country in this day and age of much turmoil. I am proud to be a fan of yours and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your effort to go over to a dangerous area and give UR time to help take their mind off of the awful conditions they have to encounter on a daily basis, even if for a short time. They derserve our support and as an American I am very proud of each and every one of our troops!! I am known as, Detro!tRocker, on the KID ROCK community..born and raised in the city where so much talent has come out of, and very proud of that! Btw, thanks for doin' Detroit proud with your video, Roll On!!! Big Kudos! :) Be safe and God Bless you!

I think you are doing the right thing posting the blog if that is whats on your mind. Feed back is good. If you have to do the time im sure you can find someting that will work for you. Dont let this bother you. 80 hours is only two weeks. Go there get a sweet room and hook it up. At least you didnt get busted with drugs or somethig worse. If your like me just think of all the stuff ya gotta way with. This year was a great year for you, I would just say feed off that. I dont know what direction you wont to take in 2009 i have some suggestions if your interested. I hope they let you carry a gun in Iraq. It must be fun its like your in the army. You are a great artist. Keep up the good work. What is it like having so many fans? It must be really cool to be Kid Rock>>>>>>>>g

As for the judge, I'll send him a few words and let him know how I feel.I aleady had a problem with him anyway. My childrens deadbeat dad who owes over 80k in child support was before that same judge and he just let him go! So he was already on my shit list ya know?As for him trying "to making a statement", well with the email I'm about to send him onthis matter, if he has any brain at all he will feel like it's a pea size one!I can't stand the way a lot of people treat you but this asswhole has went overboard with me!And you can ask Shelly(So Hott 1), I WILL do whatI say.You have touched my soul in so many way's and so many times over the years I could never thank you enough.I hope you and you family have a very Happy Holiday, and you do be careful over there and just do what you do because it's the best! We,your fans, will tell this damn judge what we all think of him.I can't wait for the US 2009 tour!I made 8 shows this year and hope to make more next year.Take care and have a very Blessed day.Peace n Luv,Corine n Mill Spring,NC

Hey Bob!! First, thank you so much for doing so much for our troops. Our hearts and prayers go with you as you travel to a land that most of us cannot even imagine. It takes a BIG heart to go to places like that. I have family serving in Iraq and I know they appreciate you coming to see them when they can't be with their families. The judge is just trying to make an example out of you. He is probably hoping a big deal will be made of it, ya know, 15 minutes of fame. But that's ok. Just be the man you are, take it for what it is, do what ya gotta do, and move on. Next year, we won't remember who he is, but you, we will ALWAYS hold in our hearts. Please be careful and come home safe. We love ya, support ya, and are proud of you. Thank you for ALL you do. Melissa, Waynesboro VA

The use of the word 'punitive' says it all. It seems to me that this specific judge wants your community service to be a miserable experience and apparently you're just going to have too much of a good time in Iraq. Clearly this judgement is about making a statement instead of recognizing and doing the right thing. It's about punishing you instead of turning a negative situation into a positive result. All you can do is just shake your head and move on. You're a blessing, Kid Rock; some people just don't get it. Thanks for all you do. -Brenna, Charlottesville, VA

Hi Bob, God bless our troops and their families, especially this time of year, it can't be easy for them to be apart. God bless you for going over and being such a huge supporter of our armed forces, we need more people like you.. You are a true patriot, not only do I admire your talent and success but also your heart and how you care about others. It's not just your music that keeps your fans true to you.. It's the person that you are. You do what a lot of us would love to do but can't because we don't have the means. You are kind of an ambassador for the rest of us. You could be sitting on your ass doing nothing(like a lot of people), but you don't. Seems to me that Judge Wong is trying to make an example out of you, for whatever stupid, ignorant reason. Whatever. All of your fans, friends, family and especially our troops, know how much you care and support our country and the ones who fight to protect us. I guess "it is what it is". Maybe your petition will be overturned, maybe not.. Either way, BE PROUD OF YOURSELF. WE ARE PROUD OF YOU. God bless to you and yours, have a safe trip, be safe, be healthy and be HAPPY. Much love.

First of all I thank you for supporting our Troops like you do. Risking your life to go over to the middle east to entertain the troops should be community service enough. It shouldn't matter if it's something you enjoy to do, it's all in your heart and soul. This Judge Wong is just wrong. Didn't you have to pay a fine and plus have to take anger management? Which of course I don't think anger management has ever done anyone good, but that should be enough for punishment having to go to those dumb ass anger classes. And from what I could tell, you were just defending, the case should have been dropped. If there was a petition I surely would sign it. GOD BLESS you Kid Rock. And thanks again for supporting and entertaining our Troops. I know you put smiles on their faces, and you give them hope as well. To bad this Judge can't understand or see that....he's a dumb ass.

Hey, Just to let you know you are loved in Iowa! I think you more than made up your community service hours by going to the Waffle House and serving food, meeting and greeting fans .. and the huge donation to a great cause. I'm sure every single soldier you have met and givin your time to treasures that so much, to know that you care enough to show it. If that judge can't see what a great thing that is, shame on him. He just wants to make an example out of you. Not sure what you can do about it, but rise to the occasion and show them dumb ass mo fo's you are up to doing what is needed to get this behind you. What else is there? And to the peeps that said you shouldn't be able to do what you love and get paid for it are wrong. I don't know for sure how it all works .. but i would bet the time you are there is donated and not paid to you. You are a stand up guy with a big heart, that loves his country. That is not hard to see! Much Love and Respect, Suzanne Hinton, IA

I applaud all that you do for the men and women who will not be spending time with their family this Christmas. They are defending this great country of ours so that we are able to celebrate the holidays with our family. You should be able to visit our troops. I'm sure a few hours of some down time for them would mean so much. I disagree with the decision this judge has made. A fight a waffle house, big deal, I would have probably done the same. Maybe I need some anger mangement. You have done so much for alot of people. Probably more than you realize. Including myself. The judge should look at the good things you have done for alot of people. Keep doing what you do and I thank you for the music and the message you are sending. You made a comment about not holding hate in your heart. That has stuck with me. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Be safe and God Bless!

I'm a doctor, I help children under the age of 10. I got a dui for drinking to much wine. The Judge would not let me doctor little children for my service. I had to pick up trash for 6 hours a day for 5 weekends. Why should you get to do what you do to make a living to pay back for being a dumb ass ? Just my thoughts. Good Luck.

Hi. I believe that life is full of lessons and we don't move onto the next lesson until we learn what we need from this current lesson. Oh believe you me, I think it's awesome what you are doing for the troops this coming holiday season. Say you could do your 80 hours by entertaining the troops ... aside from giving the troops a rockin' time, what will that service teach you? Step outside of yourself, accept what's been handed to you, and take this as an opportunity to help you grow. I know it's not the greatest of feelings at times when you're right in the moment, but every minute, every hour, every day is new. Peace and light to you. Love your music! Happy Holidays to you and your's.

Well, Bob, We all know that a lot of times individuals don't see things on our level and have to prove a point. That is exactly what seems to be happening to you in this situation. Its sucks, but just buck up and get it over with. We know all the good you do and that many have reaped the benefits and rewards. This Judge is just trying to make an example of you. Don't play that game. Have a great holiday. Give the troops lots of smiles, stories and laughter. We appreciate you for you as do so many others. Take pride in that and move on from the negative. Lots of love and appreciation, Cheryl & Kevin

I was watching Joyce Meyer yesterday, and she was talking about how it's possible to decide in advance how we're going to respond to an issue. Throughout our lives, we will find ourselves in situations where we are being unfairly treated, but regardless of how we got there or where we are going next, we have to go through it or we'll never get out of it. And since we're going to go through it anyway, we can decide to have peace about it now! Amen! Love God, love one another (even the man) and enjoy your time on this beautiful planet...even if you're wearing orange...;) Love, Win
