Time Out Chicago: Kid Rock | Interview
    Posted by
    August 17, 2011

Kid Rock calls me directly. When I tell him I’m surprised a big star would do so, he snorts: “I can dial a fucking phone. I don’t believe in all that publicist crap. ‘Don’t ask this, don’t ask that.’ Ask anything.” And it’s true, he’ll answer any question, with a chuckle and a drag off a cigar. For a rocker with an album called Cocky and a police record for a fight in a Waffle House, Rock is remarkably upbeat, down-to-earth and flat-out hilarious. Just about every interview with the 40-year-old Michigan native notes, you know what, he’s actually a great guy, believe it or not. “Story of my life,” the artist otherwise known as Bob Ritchie says. “Story. Of. My. Life.”

Love the interveiw how funny:) Hope they post some pictures from the chi-town concert we drove there from michigan to see him I saw him twice in michigan this winter and wanted a summer Rock time and never saw Sheryl Crow so that was a bonus! The concert was awsome of course !:) I could go see him every night if I could afford it and not get bored.I took my Husband with me this time and he was impressed he's not the concert type like me but he really liked it!!! Hope to see him again before the tour is over.I like the smaller venues like Dte(pine knob) you can see him without binoculars.
some kinda wonderful's picture

It feels so good to read this article..... Someone (family) once told me they saw Bob at a Tigers game and "he was an arrogant asshole " I fell to the ground and was devistated ! Words can't express how sad I felt at that moment. All I have ever seen or heard was how down to earth you are and that becoming popular and making boat loads of money didn't change you. So this was a positive read for me. Thank you Bob for proving my family wrong !! I am a firm believer that one should bit his tongue before making any judgement on another. Exspecially one who has never walked a day in anothers shoes. We are all entitled to have a bad day but, please never become an arrogant asshole that just means you have lost touch of who you are and where you came from. My father always told me " God will be the judge of that" I believe this in so many ways. Keep it real ROCK and Thanks again !!

Kid Rock's concert last night (at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre) was awesome!!! It is absolutely great to listen to live performance(s) where the artist does not use lip-synching technique, so thank you Kid Rock for making your concert(s) such amazing experience(s)! KR performed two songs w/ Sherly Crow and that was amazing! KR and SC have great chemistry on the stage. Wish they would've performed their new duet song-Collide, but i can't complain; the overal concert was amazing. As far as the concert venue goes... there are few things that FMBA should improve (like making sure that seats are clean), but that's something i'll contact them about (since that's generally out of the artist's hands) Like someone else suggested, perhaps another venue should be considerred for the future concert(s). Again, great job Kid Rock and everyone else working with you! It takes a lot of work /effort (by not just KR, but also by everyone else behind the stage) to give such amazing performance. : )

Went to your awesome (as usual) concert yesterday evening in Tinley Park/Chicago, IL. Though your show was awesome, it was partly ruined for us simply because of the location. First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre is awful and always has been - no matter who owns it. The cops are complete A-holes in the parking lots ensuring people aren't "loitering", drinking, etc., you cannot hang out outside of your vehicle prior to the concert, there are only few bathrooms and the ones that exist are sweatlockers with 50 people long lines. Tinley Park absolutely sucks. To me going to a concert means chillin' with friends, tailgaiting for a bit, and heading over to the show. I know FMBA wants concert-goers money in drinks, food etc. But people don't have money for that - especially $11 beers and $4.50 SuperPretzels. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change your Chicago venue for next year. Toyota Park is an awesome venue - went to Buffett there and it was the best concert experience all the way around that I have had - they let you tailgate, tons and tons of bathrooms/portopots, great seating, etc. I love ya Kid, love your music and am pretty confident that if you were a concert goer at Tinley Park/Chicago, IL, you would think it sucks too. Your show last night was awesome and I'll be at the next one...but PLEEEEASE move it from FMBA in Tinley Park, IL.

I'm not sure if I am sending this to the right person...but I feel the need to let you know what is happening with the sale of the Sponsor Tickets for you Concerts. I purchased meet and greet tickets for $500.00 for tonights concert at the Midwest Ampitheatre. I have a signed contract for this purchase and the guy never produced the tickets and am fighting to get the money back and now do not have the cash to purchase any tickets for tonights concert. My Daughter and I have been going every year to your concerts since she was 13 and is no 20. If there was anyway I could purchase tickets for her and I tonight I would, but I am out $500.00 and have no cash to purchase them for tonight in any seat even the lawn. Very sorry we're going to miss such a great concert!!!!Charlotte Faciano, Shorewood, IL 60404

Just a Question do they have new phones..if this was a phone interview..how can one know if someone is Stuffing a Stoogie in his mouth or putting medication on mouth sores from the overuse of a non smoker (haha) SMOKING a stoogie...very confusing...

LOVE the honesty and cockiness. "your Dad could be Richard Simmons, lighten up" Too funny. Anyway, Junior, I am sure you are registered in school as Robert James Ritchie, Junior and promise that anyone who knows Kid Rock's real name already knows that you are his kid. You just have to know that as soon as you signed up to attend that school; the rumors started flying around Nashville. Embrace it!

Dang , what woman wouldn't want him for their own. Why in the world can't I find a guy like him ? He's down to earth, nice, funny, good Dad to his son, he likes what he does for a living and is awesome at it. The list goes on.
Nixx Bieber's picture

Kid is far friendlier and funnier than we expect. Than everyone expects. :-) Never thought any different! Great Interview, thank you!

KEEPING IT REAL !!!! as always!! peace.
katrock's picture

Ya know I never had the pleasure of even meeting him or getting to know him in person. But since day one that I started listening to his music, Instinct told me he is a down to earth person and can tell he has been through some things in his life that some never did or had to. Started watching some of his interviews, I love it, he keeps it real everytime. Not afraid to laugh, be funny or answer what ever question they throw at him. I personally really like that, what the heck is life if ya can't smile, joke, have fun and be yourself !?! And has a good outlook on life in general. That's the best way to be ... always just be yourself.

Oh my God this interview is hilarious, I laughed out loud through out...telling Jr. it could be worse, his Dad could be Richard Simmons too funny!!! Your favorite beer, mine & free...haha. Thanks for sharing this, I had a good laugh =D
