Kid Rock Says He Cares What Detroit Thinks Of Him

Kid Rock covers the July issue of Men's Journal, and in it he talks about his lifestyle, turning 40, and his commitment to Detroit.

Some highlights from the Rock story:

On his Kid Rock Chillin' the Most Cruise: "I didn't know what to expect. I said it was either going to be the best time of my life or the absolute worst. And it was the best. It was one of the best times I've ever had. An absolute riot."

On his taste in movies: Rock isn't a fan of "the Hilary Swank movie where you walk out of there with tears and just feel terrible. I can't handle it. I just want to see somebody fall off a ladder, the boy and girl go home to a big pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and feel great about myself. I don't want any drama in my life — not even in a (expletive) movie. Not even when it's… What's fake? Is it fiction? Even if it's fiction, I don't want it. I just want to be happy and have fun."

On cleaning up his lifestyle, to a point: "Whatever your thing is, if it's pills, cocaine, smoking weed, when you slow that down — which I've done a lot of — you've got to relearn how to drink. That's the (expletive) hardest part. You used to be able to go all night. Finding that balance has been interesting. I still black out here and there, but nothing too serious."

On partying in Malibu: The story makes reference to celebrity parties at his Malibu house with invitees that include Sean Penn, Scarlett Johansson, Mary J. Blige and Zac Efron.

On working out with surfer Laird Hamilton: "Laird's running the show. He's the guy yelling at you the whole time. (Chris Chelios) won't work out with him because he yells at him too much. He leaves me alone a little bit because he knows I'm the skinny kid in the rock band, but he's real fun to work out with."

On helping Detroit: "You don't want Kid Rock making public policy. Well, some people might. I just see where I can help out, which is to inspire and raise funds and things like that."

On his image in Detroit: "I really care about what people think of me in this town, because my son is here, my family is here, my roots are here. I don't (care) anywhere else, but here I'm very conscious of it."

    The issue hits newsstands Friday.

OMG, Kid Rock is the sexiest guy on this planet!! I had knee surgery on Mon. can't drive, asked my daughter to go buy a Father's Day card for me. After she left, I checked out kidrock.com, saw the cover of Men's Journal. Had taken this daughter (23) with me to his concert March 4th in Atlanta, GA. Called her cell, said forget the card, buy me 2 copies of Men's Journal magazine, told her who was on the cover, she laughed and said she understood priorities:)

Kid Rock will never have to worry about what Detroit thinks of him. His two Comerica Park concerts sold out almost immediatelly. Paul McCartney tickets for one show at Comerica have been on sale for 2 days and is not even close to being sold out. That says alot about Kid Rock.

Kimberlina: What a great story!! I've have similar things happen those that I least expect to even know who he is, to be fans! You're right he does bring all types of people together.

I was in line at Borders today with my 2 copies of the Mens Journal mag in my hand when I heard a voice behind me say "Oooohhhh, I LOVE him", I turned around and saw the cutest little lady behind me, probably in her early 70's smiling from ear to ear. I smiled at her and said "You are a Kid Rock fan?" she said ohhhh yes, I've seen him around for years singing and stuff but I saw him on Pierce Morgan show and thought, now that's a guy I'd really like to know!!!! I laughed and talked to her for a little bit. She was so cute, she couldn't say enought about how impressed she was with his interview on that show. I told her I am a HUGE fan and even have a room in my house decorated with all Kid Rock stuff. Her eyes lit up like a Christmas tree!!! I told her that I love that he's real people and does so much good, she agreed and said she's now a fan!!! You got all the ladies loving ya Bob!!! Thanks for being you!!!! She was the LAST person I would have imagined having a conversation about Kid Rock with!! What a great experience, thanks for bringing people together!

Enjoy the music, support the band. With his history I wouldn't let him breathe on me unless I wore a full hazmat suit, LMAO. Some of you need to sit on some ice...or put some on your head.

Just finished reading the article....great job. Yes they got the Fuckin' 40 song title wrong, but it was great. I will soon be able to relate to Bob, my son has one more year in high school, and then I will have empty nest syndrome. However, I am not a rock star, lol....just a single mom. Cover pic is fucking hot!!! Sorry, but how can you think of the price of the magazine? Kid on the cover...priceless!!
Gwendolyn_2's picture

LOL He said "I still black out here and there, but nothing too serious." too funny!!!!
Diana_11's picture

Damn......Kid Rock, blue jeans, cowboy hat and wet.............does it get any better than that?? And, good read too. Loved his insights and honesty. But, they got the song wrong........It's "Fuck'in 40" NOT "Fuck I'm Forty"

Just got done reading the whole article.... it was a good read, some shit was pretty damn funny. What wasn't funny was the fucking price of the magazine, I was in such a hurry at the grocery store I didn't notice till I got home...yikes!!!

I don't black out either..I like to remain in control... I like to think of it Fast and In-control. Finding a balance in life some times is trying, though I am so sure you will find it! I like that you are conscientious of your child's life. You don't need to embarrass you son. Also, he sees you even when you think he didn't or don't and try to pull it later. It effects them even if you don't think it does or he don't say it does. But, If you pay attention you will know! They are funny like that.. sooo smart! You are what you eat. Also you are what your surroundings are. So stay Positive and look toward the future and just be happy.
